Abstract
This study assessed the extrinsic motivation factors and employee performance of selected fast-food restaurants in Dasmariñas City, Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to identify the extrinsic motivation factors of employees at work; to know the significant relationship between the extrinsic motivation factors and the employee performance of fast-food restaurants; and to know the significant difference between performance of the employees when grouped according to their performance.
The study was conducted from January 2017 to February 2017. It is a registered fast-food restaurant in the Municipality of Dasmariñas City, Cavite. Survey questionnaire was used as the data gathering instruments for the study. The study involved 202 selected respondents through Slovin's formula to get the target sample through the distribution of the survey questionnaire. This study used statistical treatment for the analysis and interpretation of the gathered data, such as weighted mean to determine the extrinsic motivation factors and the employee performance of fast food restaurant; Likert scale to interpret the extrinsic motivation factors and performance of employee at work; Multiple linear regression to find out the significant relationship of extrinsic motivation and employee performance; and T-test for correlated samples to determine the significant difference between the performance of employees of Jollibee and KFC.
The study revealed that compensation, company policies, interpersonal relationships, supervision and working conditions are important motivational factors that motivate employees in fast food restaurants.
The level of performance of the employees at work revealed that employees in the fast-food restaurants show excellent performance when they execute their assigned task.
The study revealed that there was a significant relationship between selected extrinsic motivation factors and the employee performance. Meanwhile, the interpersonal relationship had no significant relationship on the employee performance of fast food restaurants.
The study concluded that the employees working in Company A and Company B are excellently performing, though a significant difference in terms of performance factors was noticed. It was revealed that employees in Company A had performed better than Company B through mastery procedures and punctuality and attendance. The study also showed that there is no significant difference between performances of the employee when grouped according to their companies in terms of personal attributes. It means that employees in Company A and Company B had the same performance in terms of Initiatives, integrity/honesty, respect for authority, moral character and personal hygiene/grooming.
The study recommended that management should consistently provide and maintain those extrinsic motivation factors that allow employees to perform well. Management should also provide different programs like recognition, seminar, training and development and incentives that help employees to perform well.
