Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the consumer’s buying behavior towards government regulations on cigarettes in selected areas in the City of Bacoor, Cavite. Specifically, this study was designed to describe the demographic profile of the respondents, identify the government regulation on cigarette that mostly influenced the consumer’s behavior; know the extent of factors influencing consumer’s buying behavior; determine the significant relationship between government regulations on cigarette and the factors influences consumer’s buying behavior; and determine the significant relationship between demographic profile of the respondents and government regulations on cigarette.
Results showed that most of the respondents were between 21 to 30 years old and male with a percentage of 51.88 and 86.47 respectively. Results also showed that most of the respondents were high school and college undergraduate having the same percentage of 32.08. Most of them were influenced by the smoking ban as government regulation on cigarettes had a percentage of 52.88.
As regards to factors influencing the consumer’s buying behavior, attitude the beliefs got the highest weighted mean of 3.17, followed by the motivation, knowledge or learning and perception with a weighted mean of 3.13, 3.13, and 3.07 respectively.
The result of the study revealed that the government regulation on cigarettes has no significant relationship to the factors that influence consumer’s buying behavior such as perception, motivation, knowledge or learning, and attitude and beliefs.
The study also revealed that the demographic profile of the respondents including age and sex had no significant relationship to the government regulations on cigarettes, opposite to the educational attainment that there had a significant relationship to the government regulation on cigarettes.
