This study "Exploring the Mental Well-Being among Guidance Counselors in
Cavite State University: Basis for Wellness Plan", explores the mental well-being
among guidance counselors and associates within Cavite State University. By
evaluating their ability to cope with stress, adapt to challenges, and maintain
psychological health in their demanding roles, the study aims to identify key factors
influencing their mental well-being. Ultimately, the study aims to provide insights that
will inform the development of targeted strategies and interventions to improve their
mental health and enhance their overall effectiveness in supporting students. The
objectives of this study is to: know the insights of guidance counselors in terms of
mental well-being, identify the key factors that affect the mental health and well-being
of guidance counselors in each Cavite State University campus, determine what
aspects of the job promote work-life balance, and examine the strategies employed by
guidance counselors in managing the demands of their roles in the workplace. 11
participants were selected through purposive sampling. The criteria of the participants
must be registered guidance counselors with 2 or more working experience and
guidance associates with at least 1 year working experience under Cavite State
University.
The results were able to show 4 core themes from the study. The first theme
"Mental Well-Being in a Holistic Point of View" highlights the overall viewpoints of
mental well-being as the ability to thrive, stay balanced, and live a meaningful, and
resilient life. This possesses a comprehensive understanding of mental well-being,
shaped by the demands, and rewards of their roles. The second theme "Strain from
Counseling Responsibilities and Personal Experiences" shows the responsibilities that
the counselors and associates have to carry from a variety of strain that can be traced
from both professional duties and personal life. The third theme "Balancing Roles and
Time Management", emphasized the importance of drawing a clear line between work
and personal life, not just for the rest but to be able to continue doing their jobs with
clarity and compassion. Work-life balance is more than just dividing time between work
and home; it's about finding stability, setting limits, and staying grounded while
managing the emotional weight that comes with their roles. Lastly, the fourth theme
"Crisis Management and Needed Resources", emphasizes that effective crisis
management does not rely on personal strength alone, it requires a supportive
environment and the right tools to respond with care and confidence.
Description
This undergraduate thesis examines the mental well-being of guidance counselors and associates in Cavite State University, with the goal of providing insights for the development of a wellness plan tailored to their needs. The study assessed how guidance professionals cope with stress, maintain psychological health, and balance personal and professional responsibilities while fulfilling their demanding roles in higher education.

Using purposive sampling, 11 participants were selected based on criteria of having at least two years of professional experience as registered guidance counselors or at least one year as guidance associates. Through qualitative analysis, the study identified four core themes: (1) a holistic perspective of mental well-being as resilience, balance, and meaningful living; (2) strains arising from both counseling responsibilities and personal experiences; (3) the importance of balancing roles and practicing effective time management to sustain clarity and compassion; and (4) the need for crisis management strategies supported by institutional resources and a nurturing work environment.

The findings highlight the necessity of implementing structured wellness initiatives, providing adequate support systems, and fostering organizational practices that safeguard the mental health of guidance professionals, ultimately enhancing their capacity to effectively support students.
