It argues that statistics suggesting women have been more vulnerable to depression and anxiety are misleading since they underplay a host of alternative presentations of 'distress' more common in men.

Her research has focused on the history of gender and mental disorders and her previous work includes: Desperate Housewives, Neurosis and the Domestic Environment (2012). She is particularly interested in the relevance of history to current debates about mental illness.
