Abstract
The study was conducted from January to May 2019, to understand the LIVED
experiences of children with lesbian parents currently residing in Metro Manila. The
study used an interpretative phenomenological analysis framework that explored the
participants’ Individual Upbringing, Thoughts and perception about their own Family,
Thoughts and Perception about being adopted, Thoughts and Perception on Societal
Norms, Adjustments caused by societal norms, Own family related coping
mechanisms and Coping mechanisms for the LGBT community. One-on-one
interviews were used as it allowed the authors to establish a more personal interaction
with the participants and provided the opportunity to probe and analyze deeper the
answers provided. The study involved a total of six participants between the ages of
16 to 19 years old. The participants chosen were adopted by one of the lesbian parents
and were raised since infancy. They also belonged in a nuclear type of family structure.
After conducting the study and analyzation of the answers, the findings showed
that children with lesbian parents generally have a positive and appreciative view of
their experience. They are also vocal towards their support for the LGBT community
and are mostly open minded. The participants in general have positive experiences
despite the reality of living in an unconventional family structure.
