This study was conducted to determine the experiences of the students having solo
parent in Cavite State University-Bacoor Campus. It was conducted from September 2023
to January 2024. It aimed to answer the following questions: first, what are the experiences
of the students having solo parent; second, what are the coping mechanisms adapted to deal
with the problems of having solo parent; lastly, what are the recommendation on how to
deal with the negative effect of having solo parent. The researchers used qualitative
research design specifically descriptive approach to analyze the data well. The participants
were determined using purposive sampling technique in which the researcher relies only
on his/her own judgement when choosing members of the population to participate in the
study depending on the topic. The interview guide questionnaire was utilized to identify
their experiences and coping mechanisms as a student having solo parent. Findings
highlight the importance of understanding the experiences of having solo parents. The
study reveals that students coping mechanism on having solo parents are self-management,
self-dependent, emotional resilience, optimistic mindset, interpersonal skills and self-
determination. The study underscores the significance of parental support, communication,
and guidance in mitigating the challenges faced by students with solo parents. Also, the
study underscores the need for support systems and interventions to assist students having
solo parents. Recommendations include promoting self-care, building strong support
networks, and fostering positive parent-child relationships to enhance the well-being and
success of students with solo parents.
