Abstract
The respondents of this study were the Cavite State University- Bacoor City Campus-enrolled students for the second semester A.Y. 2016-2017. To determine if there is a significant effect of perceived stress to the hopeless of the selected students at Cavite State University-Bacoor City Campus. This study was designed to measure the level of hopelessness of the selected students.
The researcher utilized an experimental design which is the pre-test and post-test design. Under the group in pre-test and post-test design, all of the subjects were tested once before the between-subjects manipulation is applied (pre-test), and then once again (post-test). The pre-test data were intended to measure any difference that existed before the manipulation was applied; they provide baseline. The pos-test data were used to test if the manipulation had any effects (Mordcoff, 2016). The author uses a One-way Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) statistical treatment.
Based on the findings that the computed value of .871 exceeds the level of significance value of 0.05, there is no significant effect of the level of perceived stress on the level of hopelessness. One of the factors that could have affected the study was the number of the respondents, given that the confidence level of the study is 90 percent with a 10 percent margin of error. Another factor is the kind of stressors which had been encountered by the participants upon answering the questions.
Description
This undergraduate thesis investigated the relationship between perceived stress and hopelessness among selected students of Cavite State University-Bacoor City Campus during the second semester of A.Y. 2016-2017. The study employed an experimental pre-test and post-test design and utilized a one-way ANCOVA for statistical analysis. Findings revealed no significant effect of perceived stress on levels of hopelessness. Factors such as the limited number of respondents and varying stressors faced by participants may have influenced the results. The study aimed to provide a basis for designing an intervention program to support students’ mental health.
