Abstract
The influence of social media on career decision-making among senior high school students has become an increasingly relevant topic in today’s digital age. This study explores the social media awareness of Grade 12 TVL – Home Economics students of San Nicolas 3 and St. Francis of Assisi College in Bacoor City, Cavite, and its impact on their choice of Hospitality Management as a career path. Utilizing a quantitative correlational research design, the study analyzed the responses of 186 students purposively sampled from the target population. Data was gathered through surveys, focusing on demographic profiles, preferred social media platforms, influential factors on social media, and the extent of accurate and sufficient information provided about the hospitality industry.
The findings revealed that TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram are the most frequently used platforms, with promotional content, career testimonials, and educational resources playing significant roles in shaping students' career decisions. Moreover, the study assessed the relationship between social media awareness and students’ inclination toward Hospitality Management, uncovering both opportunities and challenges presented by these platforms. This research highlights the importance of guiding students in effectively utilizing social media for informed career choices while addressing the potential for misinformation.
This study serves as a valuable resource for educators, administrators, and future researchers by offering insights into the dynamic interplay between social media awareness and career aspirations in the context of a growing hospitality industry.
