In a culture where marriage is traditionally associated with parenthood, choosing a child-
free life is often seen as unconventional and subject to scrutiny. This study employs a narrative

approach to understand the lived experiences of voluntarily childless married tricenarian couples
in Bacoor, Cavite. Through in-depth, semi-structured interviews, this research gathers the
personal stories of couples aged 30–39 who have consciously decided not to have children, which
produced 12 key themes that encompass: 1) Healing through Awareness, 2) Collaborative
Growth, 3) Professional Security, 4) Spending Quality Time Together, 5) Difficulty to be
Financially Stable and Ready, 6) Ability to Have Financial Independence, 7) Marital Bonding, 8)
Being Optimistic and Firm to Decisions, 9) Ability to Practice a Healthy Lifestyle, 10) Pregnancy
Complication Awareness, 11) Strengthens the Relationship, and 12) Emotional Challenges. 
Description
A qualitative narrative study exploring the lived experiences of voluntarily childless married tricenarian couples in Bacoor, Cavite. It highlights twelve themes, including personal growth, financial independence, health considerations, marital bonding, and emotional challenges, providing insight into the motivations and implications of choosing a child-free lifestyle in the Philippine cultural context.
