Abstract
ALBANEIL, ABIGAEL D., FERREOL, WESLEY KYLE G., SALCEDA, JOSHUA C.,
SIMON, and RAD JEREMY S. Web-based Management Information System for
Mambog Elementary School. Undergraduate Capstone Project. Bachelor of Science
in Information Technology. Cavite State University, Bacoor City Campus, Bacoor City,
Cavite. January 2024. Adviser: Mr. Alvin D. Catalo.
The primary objective of this project is to develop and implement a Web-based
Management Information System (MIS) for Mambog Elementary School, focusing on
overcoming specific challenges related to communication inefficiencies, grade
dissemination, and limited access to learning resources. The study was conducted
from March 2023 to January 2024 at Mambog Elementary School, Bacoor City, Cavite.
Specifically, the study aimed to (1) design a web application that improves
communication by providing a centralized platform for news and announcements,
achievements, and learning resources, incorporates a content management system
(CMS) to efficiently manage all content on the website, including news and
announcements, organizational achievements, organizational chart, downloadable
forms, and academic learning resources, features a customized class record system
for teachers to calculate and release grades quickly, includes a student portal allowing
students convenient access to their academic performance. The portal will provide a
secure and user-friendly interface for students to view their grades; (2) develop the
web application using PHP for programming language, Laravel for PHP web
development framework, MySQL for database, HTML 5 for web pages structure,
Tailwind CSS for designing web pages, and Vanilla JavaScript and jQuery for web
interactiveness (3) test the system in terms of unit, integration, and system testing; (4)
evaluate the system using the adapted ISO 25010 evaluation instrument; and (5)
prepare an implementation plan.
The researchers used the 4GT methodology. The system was developed
primarily using Laravel 10 and MySQL. Hostinger, a hosting and domain services
provider, successfully deployed the system. Furthermore, the system was evaluated
by 137 respondents using the adapted ISO 25010 model as the evaluation instrument.
Moreover, the evaluation results reveal the system's commendable
performance across multiple criteria, earning an overall rating of "Very Good" and a
Total Rating General Weighted Mean (GWM) of 4.42. Significant scores in functional
suitability, performance efficiency, usability, reliability, security, maintainability, and
portability reinforce its effectiveness. Positive feedback from various evaluator groups
highlights the system's resilience, but differences in scores between groups point to
possible areas that need more thought or function. Ultimately, this positions the system
as respected and competent with room for ongoing improvement in line with the
school's goals.
Meanwhile, the recommended system enhancements comprise integrating a
student registration form into the faculty member's access. Furthermore, a dedicated
mobile application tailored for the student portal is also recommended. This application
will include an integrated messaging system, facilitating smooth communication
between students and teachers within the platform. Another proposed feature involves
introducing an additional user access level exclusively for posting news and
announcements. This enhancement is designed to empower specific users, enabling
them to share crucial information with the school community efficiently, thereby
improving overall system communication.
