Abstract
BELOLO, FLORENCE CHRISTINE J., GOC-ONG, MARIEL V., TRAMPE, KRISTINE
CLARISSE V. Web-based Management Information System for Purple Look Hair
Salon and Spa. Undergraduate Capstone Project . Bachelor of Science in Information
Technology. Cavite State University, Bacoor City, Cavite. January 2025. Adviser: Ms.
Rachel O. Rodriguez.

The study focused on designing and developing a web-based Management
Information System (MIS) for Purple Look Hair Salon and Spa, located in Bacoor City,
Cavite, which aimed to address inefficiencies and improve business operations of the
salon. The system was designed with the following capabilities: a user-friendly
calendar-based appointment scheduling tool, an inventory management module for
tracking salon equipment and supplies, and an employee management system that
records personal and job details, alongside scheduling tasks. Additionally, the system
includes a sales reporting module capable of generating sales reports from daily,
weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually periods.
The study was conducted from October 2023 to January 2025 in Bacoor City,
Cavite. The researchers identified problems through interviews with the salon staff and
owner, such as difficulties in appointment scheduling (currently managed via Facebook
Messenger), lack of a proper inventory management, disorganized employee records,
and reliance on Excel spreadsheets and manual papers for sales reporting. The
system was developed using Visual Studio Code, Laravel PHP framework, HTML,
CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL for efficient development and backend data
management.
The researchers used the Agile methodology. The web- based system was
successfully hosted on the web and accessed by users via its domain. Furthermore,
the system was evaluated by sixty-seven (67) respondents using the adapted ISO
25010 as the evaluation instrument. The results yield a General Weighted Mean
(G.W.M) of 4.38 with an equivalent verbal interpretation of “Very Good” proving that
the system is useful to the end users of Purple Look Hair Salon and Spa. The system's
effectiveness was demonstrated by the positive feedback and evaluation results from
users. As a result, the salon's day-to-day processes are more organized and efficient,
leading to better service delivery and a smoother workflow.
To further improve the system, the researchers recommend creating a mobile
application so customers can conveniently book appointments. Adding a chatbot for
customer service is also suggested to make responses faster and enhance the
customer experience. Lastly, a login history feature can be added for the employees’
logs, showing login times, dates, and actions performed. These improvements will
make the system even more efficient, user-friendly, and valuable to both the business
and its customers.
Description
This undergraduate capstone project developed a web-based Management Information System (MIS) for Purple Look Hair Salon and Spa in Bacoor City, Cavite, to address inefficiencies in appointment scheduling, inventory tracking, employee management, and sales reporting. Using Agile methodology, the system was built with Laravel, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL, and deployed on the web for real-time access. Key features include a calendar-based scheduling tool, inventory and employee management modules, and sales reporting across multiple time periods. Evaluation by 67 respondents using ISO 25010 standards yielded a “Very Good” overall rating (GWM = 4.38), affirming its effectiveness in streamlining daily operations. Recommended enhancements include developing a mobile booking app, integrating a chatbot for customer service, and adding an employee login history feature to further improve efficiency and user experience.
