Abstract
OROBIA, MYLEN BENDOL. Consumer Purchasing Behavior of Senior Citizens on Herbal Medicine in Queens Row Bacoor Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Marketing. Cavite State University Bacoor Cavite. April 2012. Advise: Ms. Menvyluz S. Macalalad.
The study was conducted to describe the consumer purchasing behavior on herbal medicine on Queen’s Row Bacoor Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to: describe the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents; determine the level of awareness of consumer in purchasing herbal medicine; identify the behavior of consumer in purchasing herbal medicine; and identify the problems encountered by consumers in purchasing on herbal medicine.
The study was conducted from January 2011 to February 2012 in three (3) barangays of Queen’s Row namely: Queen’s Row Central, Queen’s Row East and Queen’s Row West. One hundred senior citizens comprised the respondents of the study. Data were gathered through personal interview. The study used percentage, weighted mean, likert scale and ranking in presenting and analyzing the data/information.
Results showed that majority of the respondents (57%) age range from 60 to 69, female (56%) and married (52%). The highest number of respondents (31%) was high school graduates and receives monthly allowance/earnings of PhP 5,000 and below.
With a general weighted mean of 3.59, the respondents were aware with the types of herbal medicine like dry extracts (pills, tablets or capsules) weighted mean of 3.97.
The behavior of consumer in purchasing herbal medicine in terms of: social influence of family as dominant role in purchasing the product weighted mean of 3.73, perception in price with 4.02 weighted mean, interest in purchasing on past experience in the product and more aware of the product with same 3.73 weighted mean, motivation in affordability of the product with 3.91 weighted mean, lastly is learning in medicinal indication with 3.92 weighted arithmetic mean.
The respondents, 30 percent cited the absence of therapeutic claim in purchasing herbal medicine. Majority of the respondents complained of inactiveness or ineffectiveness of the herbal medicine in terms of usage with 3 percent. Lastly, was in terms of the side effects of improper use of herbal medicine which results into excessive daytime sleepiness with 28 percent.
