Abstract
This study focuses on the first semester until the second semester of Academic year
2019-2020. This study is conducted to determine the behavioral development of of a chile
having separated parents in Citihomes Subdivisuion, Molino IV, Bacoor City, Cavite and the
necessary intervention/diversion program to be proposed to address the effects to having
separated parents.
The respondents of this research are composed of two children, who are considered
coming from separated parents according to the definition of PD. No. 603 of December 10,
1974, from Citihomes Subdivision, Molino IV, Bacoor City, Cavite top ensure the reliability of the
information and data to be gathered with the consent coming from Citihomes Homeowners
Association Inc. officers and remaining parent, or guardian of the child.
The results of the study determine the behavioral development of a child having
separated parents. Both respondents experience hardships of having an incomplete family while
growing up. One cannot stop comparing himself to other families who are complete though, in
time, learned to accept the situation. On the other hand, the other respondent learned to be
responsible at an early age to help his mother with the responsibilities at home. The first
respondent has less emotional distress due to a few limited memories of a father, but the
second respondent felt emptiness and emotional distress of yearning for a father. The first
respondent learned to accept the situation over time, while the second respondent finds the
situation difficult due to father’s absence. The first respondent developed resentment towards
the father. The second respondent developed weariness towards the need of having a father to
help in the future. Both of them accepted their current situation, but they differ in ways of coping
with acceptance. The first respondent was already aware of and admitted the current situation.
In contrast, the second respondent accepted the situation and used it as a motivation to improve
life.
The study results determine the intervention/diversion program proposal to address the
effects of having separated parents. Both respondents suggested an awareness program to
counsel the children of broken families to help them mentally, spiritually, and psychologically.
According to the first respondent, “for me, awareness….not necessarily awareness but
maybe a seminar to get through and address the situation of having a broken family. If you only

raise awareness, the impact will not be sufficient. There is a need to provide a substantial
solution on addressing the problems of being in a broken family”.
According to the second respondent, “maybe best way is to provide an awareness
program or counseling to the family who is experiencing this kind of situation (separation of
parents). I think there couldn’t be better counselors than those wo came out of this kind of
situation or those parents who decided to separate by providing insights as to what happened to
the family after the separation.”
Description
This undergraduate thesis examined the behavioral development of children with separated parents in Citihomes Subdivision, Molino IV, Bacoor City, Cavite, during the academic year 2019–2020. Focusing on two child respondents, the study investigated their emotional and psychological adjustments, coping mechanisms, and the challenges they faced growing up in single-parent households. The research found that both children experienced hardships but developed different coping strategies: one expressed resentment toward the absent parent but eventually accepted the situation, while the other used the experience as motivation for personal growth. The study proposed awareness and counseling programs as interventions to support children and families affected by parental separation.
