Working Students – Time Management – COVID-19 Pandemic – Higher Education – Philippines
Abstract
As this pandemic hits the land, education is no exemption. The lockdowns
imposed by the Philippine government in response to this gigantic educational
crisis have resulted in the closure of some schools around the country.
Commission on Higher Education (CHED) advised higher education institutions
(HEIs) to push through with "accessible flexible learning and other alternatives
instead of the face-to-face conventional setting of learning" (Commission on
Higher Education, 2020).
Students face different difficulties that might affect their academic
performance. This may include factors like working while attending school. Many
students force themselves to work while studying. Nevertheless, most of the
students work because of financial complications.
According to the researchers’ findings, time management plays a significant
role in balancing work and study at the same time, and it is also concluded that
effective time management reduces overwhelm and helps you prioritize, ensuring
you work smarter and achieve your goals faster.
The researchers recommend that Students, regardless of their situation
(working student or not), would properly manage their time in order to balance work
and study at the same time.

This undergraduate thesis explores the lived experiences of working students at Cavite State University – Bacoor City Campus during the COVID-19 pandemic. Employing a phenomenological research design, the study investigates the challenges faced by students juggling both academic responsibilities and employment amid a shift to flexible learning. Key findings highlight the importance of time management in maintaining academic performance and reducing stress. The study concludes that effective time management strategies are essential for success and recommends that all students, regardless of employment status, adopt such strategies to improve work-study balance.
