Abstract
Abiadew. The current research aimed to determine the students level of awareness on
the salient features of safe space act (RA 11313). This study aims to know the
level of awareness of Criminology students of Cavite State University Bacoor
Campus in terms of: a. Gender-based sexual harassment in the street
displays of behavior punishable by law, b. Gender-based online sexual
harassment displays of behavior punishable by law, c. Gender-based sexual
harassment in public utility vehicle and places open to public, d. Safe space
act inside educational and training institutes, e. Penalties and liabilities of
offenders . The researchers used the mixed-method descriptive research
design in order to clearly present the level of awareness on salient features of
safe space act among criminology students at Cavite State University Bacoor
Campus. A mixed-method research design incorporates techniques from
qualitative research and quantitative research. Stratified probability sampling
technique was used in this study that draws conclusions from different sub- groups or strata that is suitable in analyzing various groups such as year level and gender that will equally represent the groups. Harassment as widely defined by the dictionary translates to creating a hostile situation, especially by uninvited and unwelcome verbal or physical conduct. The availability and accessibility of information made possible by technological advancements
give new opportunities for online abuse. Hence, the purpose of this paper
explores the awareness of criminology students on the provisions of “Safe
Space Act” (R.A.11313). The researchers used a survey questionnaire as an
instrument and it was validated by the thesis adviser and panelists. The study
interprets that the awareness per year level differs from each other. This
study showed the existing awareness of the students regarding the provisions
of “Safe Space Act”, its implementation, punishable acts, behaviors and
penalties to the offender. The study showed the level of awareness in acts on
GBSH: in the streets displays of behavior punishable by law (Aware), online
displays of behavior punishable by law (Fully Aware), in public utility vehicle
and places open to public (Aware), inside the educational and training
institutions (Aware), and Safe Space Act penalties and liabilities of the
offender (Aware). The study also showed the difference in the level of
awareness of Male and Female of Criminology Students in Cavite State
University Bacoor Campus and its results that Female are more Aware than
Male students on the salient acts of Safe Space Act. The general findings
from this study revealed the level of awareness of the Criminology students of
Cavite State University Bacoor Campus on the acts of gender based sexual
harassment that are punishable by law.
